Desertion
Peterhouse Theatre – Cambridge
Desertion was first performed to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Rupert Brooke's death. It recreates in words, music and dance, the story of Rupert Brooke's love affair with Ka Cox, revealing the profound effect she had on his poetry. Combining published and unpublished letters and poems of Brooke and his circle of friends, the script provides a feast of the English language.
The play won acclaim during the opening week in Cambridge; as the Cambridge Evening News put it: 'there cannot be a member of the audience for whom Brooke will ever be the same again'.
